Personal Commentary
What Did you Like Best About the Story? What Did you Like the Least?
- We liked that it has a "personal" effect to it. We are the eyes and ears of the narrator, going through all his struggles and achievements with him. This helps the readers to feel from their own skin what it really felt to be discriminated against and not have a voice to stand up for yourself.
- The book itself was a little too negative. At times where there was nothing going wrong, the narrator made it seem like it was the end of the world and made us feel his pain; it was generally too pessimistic but it did add greatly to the over all theme of the novel.
If there was one thing you could change about the story...?
- We would change the time period where the narrator finds out that he is actually someone of incredible importance and that his voice is being heard even if he is "invisible". He takes a long time to realize that his effect on the people around him were good rather than bad. That's the only thing we would really change.
Would you recommend this book for others to read? Why or why not?
- Yes, because it helps you reflect on how society can't change our identity. We are the only ones that have that control over ourselves. We may be "invisible" but that doesn't mean we can't change the world.
